Generic Domains Increasingly Used In Corporate Marketing Campaigns

Baby.com (by Johnson & Johnson)The guys at SearchDomainsForSale.com have compiled a list of mostly generic domains that were recently used in the marketing campaigns of large corporations such as American Express, Boeing, Burger King, Dominos Pizza, General Electric, Microsoft, Pepsi and Unilever. The interesting thing is that these domains do not mention any particular brand or company name:

The purchase, development and marketing of non-brand domain names to promote an existing, nationally known brand names is a cutting edge marketing idea. This method gives ad agencies and brands the ability to monitor traffic to the non-branded web site allowing them to better track their campaigns. Also, developers and marketing agencies do not need access to the corporate or main brand site for development and statistics.

Domains include: SuitcaseOfCash.com (A&E), MyLifeMyCard.com (American Express), Underwear.com (Calvin Klein), AskDrZ.com (Daimler Chrysler), TaxCut.com (H&R Block), Baby.com (Johnson & Johnson), Priceless.com (MasterCard), TasteLoss.com (Miller Beer), TouchGenerations.com (Nintento), DriveHappier.com (Pioneer), TimeRenewal.com (Procter & Gamble) and GoodCleanFeeling.com (Wrigley Orbit Gum).

  1. Thanks for highlighting our efforts on the Creative Domain Marketing.

I spotted this trend about one year ago and have been adding new examples a couple times a month.

We welcome other examples so keep your eyes open in magazines, newspapers, television and radio for national name brands using "off brand" domains in their brand marketing campaigns.

If you read my last post on domain name reputation management, you\'d realize I\'ve been thinking quite a bit lately about the intersection of search marketing and domaining. Interesting to note…
