Spanish .org Domains To Launch March 3

As of March 3, 2007, Spanish will join the list of languages whose special characters (á, é, í, ñ, ó, ú and ü) can be used as part of .org domain names. This move will allow the registration of Spanish .org domains such as mañana.org, córdoba.org or policía.org. It is already possible to register .org domains with Danish, German, Hungarian, Icelandic, Korean (Hangul), Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish and Swedish characters.

For the protection of trademark owners, all Spanish .org domains registered between March 3 and April 2 will be locked, and the domains will not resolve and cannot be updated, deleted or transferred. This move is expected to allow sufficient time for any Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) disputes to be initiated by intellectual property owners who fail to register the domains they are interested in themselves, or who identify potential infringements in domains registered by others.

(Incidentally, the .org registry is looking for a CEO. Details here.)
