Refresh.com Leads Weekly Domain Sales Chart

Refresh.comThe latest weekly top 20 list of reported domain sales is shown below (thanks to DNJournal). Refresh.com leads the list; the domain was sold by Hong Kong-based Adosi Ltd. for $115,000 in a private transaction.

Last week also saw the expiration of a large number of adult-related domains, which were immediately snapped up by drop catchers, generating a total sales volume in the seven figures. Many of these domains had been owned by John Zuccarini, a black sheep among domainers who was jailed in 2003 for having redirected typo domains targeting children (such as dinseyland.com) to pornographic websites. Zuccarini was released on November 4, 2005 and it is not known why he failed to renew the legitimate portion of his portfolio.

Maybe his domains were seized by the government?

  2. Any idea who held the auction for these? And/or who the winning bidder was? Winning Bidders?

  3. Most of the adult domains were auctioned off by Snapnames.com, and many of them were acquired by companies from the Cayman Islands. Check the whois records for details.

  4. Right, whois. Duh. ;)

Thanks for the info on the auction co. And thanks for the site! It is great!

  5. I almost missed this… 1P.com ($20,500)

Anyone notice that a 2 character .com domain went for only $20K?

The domain was used by a company called Traffic Power (trafficpower.com) that use to rip people off selling SEO services. They made the stupid mistake of suing someone that talked about what they were doing, and the fact that they got banned by Google.

When they started getting more heat than they could take from people being outraged by what they had done, they took the domain of 1p.com and moved their operation there. Someone connected with them also set up a "fake" forum, where all the posts put down other SEO companies and only had good things to say about 1P. It would be funny if it was not so pathetic.

Anyway, the new owner is enjoying many links and mentions about the domain. Too bad most are not flattering… personally, I think that domain will be "tainted" for a long time.

  6. It seems like selling domains is a pretty lucrative business, but also a dangerous one, as Chris Nielsen has mentioned before..
